KARL GIRARDET (1813-1871).
Oil on canvas.
Signed on the lower right corner “Girardet - monument d’apres Roberts”. Girardet, court painter to Louis-Philippe I, documents the visit of the Duke of Montpensier to the half-excavated Temple of Horus in Edfu. The painter visited Egypt in the 1840’s, however he follows David Roberts lithographs on the subject.
The lot includes a study issued by “Peritos de Arte” on the painting and the author.
110 x 140 cm; 133 x 163 cm. (frame).
