LATE 17TH CENTURY/EARLY 18TH CENTURY ENGLISH SCHOOL
Oil on canvas.
Probably by either an artist of Godfrey Kneller (1646-1723) or his disciple’s Charles Jervas’ (c. 1675-1739) circle. The first was knighted 1680 and was active as court painter until 1727, having been a disciple of F. Bol and Rembrandt. Kneller was succeeded in court on the same year by Jervas.
