Lot description

Among guitar players, Ignacio Fleta is considered the most important luthier of the 20th Century worldwide. He comes from a saga of woodworkers, and at the age of 13 he trained as a luthier, mainly of violins, violas and cellos. In 1915, he and his brothers founded a workshop in Barcelona, until his own breakaway and solo start in 1927. From 1936, after a series of tests imitating Torres' guitars, he progressively specialised in this instrument. The highlight in his career was in 1955, when he heard Bach's scores versioned on the guitar: at that point he received commissions from performers such as Andrés Segovia, the Empress of Iran Farah Diba Pahlevi, important dignitaries and composers such as John Williams.
The guitar presented in this auction was made in his mature stage following the Italian school: the aged cedar offers the best features, both in terms of conservation and sound (this being the most personal characteristic of the author) and also, in this case, we are in front of a unique neck, without any curvature whatsoever.
Models like this one have been auctioned since the very beginnings of the luthier, as the waiting list for their production has always been very long. His workshop currently delivers a similar guitar with a waiting list of 7 years.
With case.
