Lot description

Oil on canvas.
On the back, attributed, dated and located, according to an inscription: "Borroncillo ó Idea executada a el Fresco el Año de 1789. en la Boveda ó techo dela Presbiterio dela Iga. Parroql. de Sn. Gines de Madrid by the Painter D. Josef del Castillo. and promoted by Mr. Doctr. D Alonso Arias Gagó, Visitador Ecco. a qn. la dedicates another Profor." (sic).
57 x 63 cm; 76 x 81 cm (frame).
The mural painting of the vault for which this sketch was made has not survived, as it disappeared in the fire inside the church in 1824, together with the sketch kept in the sacristy, which is currently the only other known vestige of this set of paintings.
