Lot description

Model designed in 1902 for the project for the room at Hill House in Helensburgh, near Glasgow, Scotland, from which it takes its name. Mackintosh, together with his wife Margaret Macdonald and the group ‘The Four’, was one of the leading figures of geometric Art Nouveau movement that flourished in early 20th-century in Europe. Since 1973, Cassina has been reissuing Mackintosh's designs with furniture craftsmen from Meda, in the Brianza region, north of Milan.
Structure in solid ash wood stained in black. Seat in solid beech with elastic cross webbing and upholstered in ochre velvet.
Minor chipping at the waist.
